What happens in a Pelvic health treatment visit?

Pelvic health physical therapy is collaborative, private, and tailored to your body. Every visit is one-on-one and paced with your comfort and consent guiding the process.

Your First Visit

Your initial session is focused on understanding you and creating a plan that makes sense for your body and your goals.

We’ll start with a detailed conversation, including:

  • Your questions, concerns, and goals

  • Your medical and movement history

  • Your current symptoms and what may be contributing to them

  • A personalized treatment plan

  • Recommended visit frequency

  • Initial home exercises, when appropriate

Next, we’ll complete a comprehensive evaluation, which may include:

  • Assessment of whole-body movement

    • Ribs, hips, pelvis, spine, and abdomen

  • An internal pelvic exam only if it is appropriate and with your explicit consent

    • One gloved, lubricated finger inserted vaginally or rectally

    • Assessment of pain, muscle tension, coordination, and activaiton

You are always in control. Internal assessment is never required, and consent is ongoing throughout the session.

Treatment during the visit may include:

  • Hands-on external bodywork such as

    • Trigger point dry needling

    • Joint, muscle, and fascial mobilization

  • Internal pelvic muscle treatment only with consent, using gentle pressure and stretch

  • Guided, individualized exercise

Session length: Approximately one hour

You’ll leave with: A clear understanding of what we’re addressing and why

Follow-Up Visits

Subsequent visits build on the momentum of your first session.

Each visit includes:

  • One-on-one treatment with the same physical therapist

  • Ongoing evaluation and progression of care

  • Continued discussion and education

  • Approximately one hour per session

You’ll always leave knowing:

  • What we worked on that day and why

  • Any updates or adjustments to your treatment plan

Your Final Visit

When you’re ready for discharge, we’ll make sure you feel confident moving forward.

You will leave with:

  • A plan to manage symptoms independently

  • Strategies to reduce the risk of symptoms returning

Important Notes

  • Every visit is tailored to your specific body, symptoms, and goals

  • Only one patient is scheduled per hour so your care is never rushed

  • Your questions, feedback, and preferences are not only welcome—they are essential to effective care
